What's more important, the lyrics or the Beats?

Lots of people are telling me, its the beats, what say you?

I think both, but if your dealing with dance music then the beat is important but people like to have a tune they can along to with something catchy, But let me ask a question what is more important to fans Music, Lyrics or the way the artist looks?? Is looks more important than the music now a days?

The beats for sure...people move to the beat! Of course the perfect marriage is when the beat and lyric are blended with the chemistry of voice.
A strong stage presence can overcome looks...I believe looks may play a big role with teenagers more so than with an older set!

I think it is a combination of lyrics, music, beat, ...., I love music so if it strikes a memory or emotionally affects me. It could be a note or just a single sound that would make me love the song.

I agree, because there is something about each artist that I find fascinating. The thought behind the beats, the setting in which the lyrics were written, and the feelings in the music, are all very different triggers. But the key to understanding the audience an artist is trying to reach - is to understand what triggers their particular market.

Honestly they are both very important parts to a song, but it really depends on the listener as to what is more important. Being the type of rapper I am, I pride myself on being a lyricist, so I would definitely have to say that lyrics to me are the most important aspect of a song. That being said the beat still needs to be at least sufficient enough to compliment the lyrics that are being delivered over it.

Can you have both great lyrics and great beats. , but somehow have poor mechanics and still deliver a bad product? If so, what are those mechanics that can mess up the whole thing?
