- Born in Norfolk Virginia, Azriel St. Michael moved to Canada as a child. His passion for
writing began to show at the age of ten, when he wrote his first short story, Pad the Panda Bear.
In his early teens, Azriel discovered the writings of Robert E. Howard, and his life-long love
affair with fantasy fiction and art began.
In High school, he attended creative writing cla**** while studying music, classical voice,
guitar and song writing. After graduation, he continued to pursue his love of music, travelling
throughout North America in various rock bands. His love for writing stories, however, remained as strong as his passion for music, and in 2000 Azriel started work on his first full-length fantasy novel. He spent the next six years creating a generated world in which many of his stories and poems take place.
Az says, “I felt unsatisfied with a lot of the genre fantasy fiction I was reading. I wanted to be plunged into the story, and they just didn’t take me where I wanted to go. So I decided to write my own stories that did. In everything I write----be it stories, poetry, or music and lyrics----I write to satisfy myself first and foremost. If it doesn’t fulfill me as an author, writer, or singer, chances are, it won’t do much for anyone else either.”
In the spring of 2008, Azriel and his band Jezebels Kiss went into the studio to begin recording their debut effort Positive Hostility with producer Ryan Andersen, well-known for his work with Canadian rock phenomenon, Nickelback.
While writing the songs for the album, Azriel completed Bedtime Stories for Naughty Children, a book of dark poetry for which he is presently seeking a publisher.
In June 2009 Jezebels Kiss signed a North American Distribution deal with Dynasty Records Distribution, making Positive Hostility currently available in over 4500 stores in the US and all HMV and CD Plus outlets in Canada.
A candid interview with him will be published in late 2009 by KINK Magazine. The edition will also feature several audio tracks from Positive Hostility as well as one of Azriel’s dark, epic poems.
Azriel St. Michael resides in Prince Albert, SK. He is presently finishing a new novel called Legend of the Bloody Chalice while preparing to go on tour in Canada and the United States with Jezebels Kiss.
The first single from Positive Hostility will be released to radio in North America in September 2009 with more to follow soon after.
